the life of jan Alolan

My father was raised poor; my mother middle-class. They both went to Baptist school in the southern suburbs of Detroit, graduating in 1992. My mother got a full scholarship to go to Wayne State, and she graduated with a Bachelor's in German in 1996, before going to the University of Michigan to pursue a Master's in Information Science. My father's academic history is a little less clear to me, but I think he went to UofM first after getting out of school, and also got a degree in German, then worked for a while for Ford (as did my mother) before returning to college (many smaller ones then Wayne State) to pursue medicine. It was in that time frame of '92-'96 that they got married, travelled around, lived in Germany, and lived like college students in their early twenties.

My mother landed at her permanent job around the time my father graduated from med school as a psychiatrist, which was also when I was born, in 2006 in a hospital in Dearborn. The first house I remember was in Wyandotte, the same city my maternal grandparents were, where we lived until I was around 3. I only have a few memories of that house; there were some raspberries growing in our backyard that we would eat when we walked to the car in the morning, and a random memory of climbing up the stairs to get in the bath, and losing Vermont from this magnetic map of the United States under the oven when we were moving out. Montana also got bent at some point but I'm pretty sure that was later. We moved to Grosse Pointe Shores after that to be closer to my preschool.

is life just a summary of the places we've lived? moving is a good milestone i guess.
